Ultrasport Helicopters :
ATI developed from concept to serial production the Ultrasport family of one- and two-man rated amateur-built helicopters. The aircraft incorporate advanced composite structures, a high efficiency rotor system, and easy to assemble / maintain drivetrain components. Tasks included the development of the power train, rotor hub and controls, composite fuselage structure, and composite rotor blades and tooling. ATI conducted the design, wind tunnel testing, the dynamic and static analysis, proof testing, crash-worthy structural integrity analysis and testing and all flight testing of the prototype vehicles. Direct liaison with FAA staff insured compliant and safe flight operations. ATI also identified and qualified suppliers, fabricated the initial 50 shipset kits of each model, and wrote operator and construction manuals. ATI continues to supply the main and tail rotor blades for the Ultrasport kits. To date, over 100 rotorcraft are flying with several thousand flight hours accumulated. In recognition of this program, the American Helicopter Society awarded ATI the 1996 Howard Hughes Award for technical innovation in the Worlds First Successful Ultra-Light Helicopter.
